Luis Antonio Ramos and Luis Guzman on the set of HBO’s “How to make it in America” shooting in NYC. You get to see behind the scenes footage only here on Latino Film Chatter.

When I talk with Luis Antonio Ramos on the phone or even when we are chilling, he always calls himself a “Been around guy” guys like himself, Luis Guzman, Jaime Tirelli, and I could mention more but you get the point, these guys have been in this game for over 20 years!

I was even making that point with Luis Guzman the other day, we were discussing the sitcom “COMMUNITY” and how in the episode Luis was being honored at Greendale Community college. This is on prime time NBC and as I watch the show it hits me, the first time I ever saw Luis Guzman was on “Miami Vice” on NBC over 20 years ago.

Now I watched this show and see how full circle life is and how back then Luis was doing his first official acting gig, 20 plus years later “Community” on NBC dedicated an entire episode to Luis Guzman. He’s never in the show physically but we do see a statue of him at the end.

I’m sure he’d love to get that statue and put it in front of his house in Vermont.

Well the whole purpose of the story really was about “Been around guys” in the acting game, Luis Ramos is no slouch in this department either. He’s been a Lead in several TV shows (Early Edition CBS, Martin FOX, Huntress USA) on various networks. Yet Luis Ramos and Luis Guzman never really knew each other. They knew of each other but just weren’t cool like that.

I came to find this out cause I hang out with both and would talk about each other to both Luis’ I know it is getting confusing, lol bueno the thing is now they are friends because I introduced them to each other. Two Boricuas from New York doing their thing in the arts.

Luis Ramos was good enough to capture some of their day on the set, for us here on Latino film chatter. The been around guys that now can’t seem to stop crossing paths have been very supportive of Latino Film Chatter and I thank both Luis Ramos for always stepping up for the site, and to Luis Guzman bro what can I say except “I loved you in Ghost” :)

Just in time: TV Hall of Fame to induct Roddenberry

Did you know there was a TV Academy Hall of Fame?

I didn’t know there was a TV Academy Hall of Fame.

Gene Roddenberry

But it seems Gene Roddenberry, Candice Bergen and the Smothers Brothers are getting inducted.

The freakin’ Smothers Brothers …

TV Hall of Fame — they’re just now getting around to the Smothers Brothers.

All Hall of Fames have the same problem. They induct people so far after their biggest achievements that nobody cares when it finally happens. The inductees are both obvious and years-away-from-timely … or, in the case of Roddenberry, they’re inconveniently dead.

Here’s our favorite wire service with more…

By Reuters
Late “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry, comedy duo Tom and Dick Smothers and actress Candice Bergen will be among those inducted into the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame in January.

The Television Academy said on Tuesday they would be joined by “Saturday Night Live” and game show announcer Don Pardo, “The Price Is Right” game show creator Bob Stewart and Emmy-award winning art director Charles Lisanby for the annual ceremony.

“This year’s inductees have challenged and shaped popular culture and entertained us royally while doing so,” said Television Academy chairman John Shaffner.

Bergen is best known for her role in the 1990s CBS comedy “Murphy Brown,” while the Smothers Brothers started their TV career in the 1960s and are still performing for audiences around the United States.

Roddenberry’s “Star Trek” franchise includes 10 movies and 7 TV series stretching back to 1966.

SONY sez 3-D TV is ready!!

SONY sez 3-D TV is ready!!

Awkward glasses at the ready for Sony’s new 3D TVs.

Following a recent Hollywood procession of 3D films and gathering expectations in movie and videogame circles for James Cameron’s Avatar, Japanese consumer electronics
giant Sony has moved to add yet further appeal to the medium by announcing a line of new 3D televisions.

Speaking during the Sony press conference at the 2009 IFA technology show in Berlin, Germany, company chief executive Sir Howard Stringer revealed the upcoming televisions and described 3D home entertainment as “…on its way to becoming a mass market technology.”

Although Sir Howard conceded that 3D still has a number of issues that require attention before the medium is completely ready for mass market consumption, he insisted that “the 3D train” is very much on track and Sony Corp. “is ready to drive it home.”

In terms of its upcoming support for home-based 3D, Sony expects to have a range of 3D-compatible BRAVIA high-definition televisions ready for a market launch during 2010.

Sony is also aiming to expand 3D compatibility to its popular VAIO notebook computers, industry standard Blu-ray players, and its powerhouse PlayStation 3 videogame and multimedia platform.

While many may view 3D entertainment as something of a gimmick, Sony is not alone in lending its support for the medium’s evolution. Specifically, fellow manufacturing heavyweights such as Samsung and LG have similarly announced their intentions regarding the impending creation of 3D-compatible TVs.
