Biutiful with Javier Bardem in theaters December 29th, 2010

// October 22nd, 2010 // No Comments » // Trailers, What's Poppin

Biutiful is a love story between a father and his children. This is the journey of Uxbal, a conflicted man who struggles to reconcile fatherhood, love, spirituality, crime, guilt and mortality amidst the dangerous underworld of modern Barcelona. His livelihood is earned out of bounds, his sacrifices for his children know no bounds. Like life itself, this is a circular tale that ends where it begins. As fate encircles him and thresholds are crossed, a dim, redemptive road brightens, illuminating the inheritances bestowed from father to child, and the paternal guiding hand that navigates life’s corridors, whether bright, bad – or biutiful.

Synopsis: A remake of the 1979 controversial cult classic, I Spit on Your Grave retells the horrific tale of writer Jennifer Hills who takes a retreat from the city to a charming cabin in the woods to start on her next book. But Jennifer’s presence in the small town attracts the attention of a few morally deprived locals led by JOHNNY, the town’s service station owner, his two co-workers, ANDY and STANLEY, who along with their socially and mentally challenged friend MATTHEW, set out one night to teach this city girl a lesson.

They break into her cabin to scare her. However, what starts out as terrifying acts of humiliation and intimidation, quickly and uncontrollably escalates into a night of physical abuse and torturous rape. But before they can kill her, Jennifer sacrifices her broken and beaten body to a raging river that washes her away.

As time passes, the men slowly stop searching for her body and try to go back to life as usual. But that isn’t about to happen. Against all odds, Jennifer Hills survived her ordeal. Now, with hell bent vengeance, Jennifer’s sole purpose is to turn the tables on these animals and to inflict upon them, every horrifying and torturous moment they carried out on her…only much, much worse!

‘The Expendables’ hits theaters August 13th are you going to the testosterone party?

// August 5th, 2010 // No Comments » // Trailers, What's Poppin

It’s been nearly two decades since Sylvester Stallone ruled the box office with films like “Rocky” and “First Blood.” With the release next weekend of “The Expendables” — a retro men-on-a-mission film with Stallone out front and center — Lionsgate is betting that there is still gas left in Sly’s tank.

He won’t be doing the heavy lifting by himself. Stallone has cleverly surrounded himself with a cavalcade of current stars like Mickey Rourke and Jason Statham — and ’80s has-beens like Dolph Lundgren — who are past their expiration date, but still command goodwill among filmgoers.

In true gang’s-all-here fashion, even Bruce Willis and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger pop up in cameos.

“Ten years ago, they couldn’t have afforded these guys, but now it’s a different story,” Jeff Bock, a box-office analyst with Exhibitor Relations expressed. “This is an action junkie’s dream team, and that’s how they’re selling it — with just a list of names.”

“They’re taking their lemons and making them into lemonade,” a rival marketing executive told us.

“Expendables” does not just represent a second chance for Stallone’s crew, it also offers an opportunity for redemption for Lionsgate’s marketing team. Let’s see if their testosterone filled ads gets people to go check it out. The Expendables hits theaters August 13th

OMG! you are never gonna believe this shit!! it was Drugs!

Five months after his 32-year old wife, actress Brittany Murphy, died of community acquired pneumonia,” iron deficiency anemia, and multiple drug intoxication, Simon Monjack was found dead last night in the same house.

New York Daily News reports:

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office confirmed early Monday morning that the 39-year-old screenwriter died shortly after emergency services received a 911 call at 9:24 p.m. PT Sunday night. “We have detectives at scene,” Sgt. Louie Lozano told the Los Angeles Times. “They are conducting their investigation. Once we have further information, we will provide it.”Monjack was pronounced dead by emergency personnel. Although the exact cause of death is still unknown, police said it appears to be natural causes. Back in December, Monjack’s wife died of pneumonia complicated by an iron deficiency, anemia and multiple drug intoxication. The two had been married since 2007.

It would be romantic to say he died of a broken heart, but since a broken heart doesn’t come in prescription form, I’m gonna say drugs. Lots of drugs. In related news, if you’re in the market for a new house, I’d probably skip over this one on the tour. Apparently it makes people in their 30′s ghosts. You’d have a better time living in a house that was built in an old indian burial ground.

Will Chris Evans go from Torch to Captain America?

// March 22nd, 2010 // No Comments » // What's Poppin

Yes, Marvel Studios made Chris Evans an offer to play Captain America. But I hear that the testing process will continue because the actor is conflicted about jumping into another superhero role, after playing Johnny Storm/Human Torch in two Fantastic Four installments.
This could certainly be bargaining table posturing, because Marvel drives the toughest deals in town. But other actors have turned away from big superhero movie roles. They include Heath Ledger, who turned down Spider-Man because he didn’t want to be typecast or sign for three movies. (He later came back for an Oscar-winning turn as The Joker in The Dark Knight). Josh Hartnett turned down the chance to play Superman several years ago for similar reasons, even though the 3-picture pact could have paid him nearly $100 million. Marvel is offering far less, and asking for 9 options.
