Ron Howard is prepping Kevin James and Vince Vaughn for his next feature.

Ron Howard is setting Kevin James to play Vince Vaughn’s best friend in the untitled Universal Pictures comedy about infidelity. The film is Howard’s next directing vehicle from a screenplay by Allan Loeb. Howard and Imagine partner Brian Grazer are prepping a spring start in Chicago. Kevin and Vince will play best friends and business partners, and Vaughn is tortured when he observes his pal’s wife getting intimate with another man. Should he tell? The comedy came from an idea by Grazer, who’ll produce with Vaughn and the actor’s Wild West Picture Show banner. Imagine’s Kim Roth is executive producer. The buddy system has made for a nice transition for James after his long-running TV sitcom King of Queens. He paired with Will Smith in Hitch and Adam Sandler in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. After carrying Paul Blart: Mall Cop, he re-teamed with Sandler in Grown Ups and plays the title role in the MGM comedy The Zookeeper. Scripter Loeb has been writing about all forms of cheating, with recent credits that include the card-counting drama 21, Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, and now this infidelity comedy.

Willem Dafoe and Ethan Hawke do it up with vampires in “Daybreakers”

// January 7th, 2010 // No Comments » // Trailers

We haven’t talked much about Daybreakers, the upcoming vampire film by writer/director siblings Michael and Peter Spierig, but the release of the film’s extended TV trailer seems reason enough to shed some light on it. The film stars Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe in a world where vampires rule, and humans are a minority hunted for blood. In the trailers it’s revealed that the vampires blood supply is dwindling, and that they’re searching for a synthetic blood substitute. There’s also talk of a “cure”—apparently the worldwide vampirism was caused by a plague of some sort.

I like the film’s reversal by making vampires the dominant group, and overall it looks like a perfectly stylish blend of sci-fi and horror. Quite honestly, I was hoping we’d eventually see a film with this premise in the Blade universe, but we can thank David Goyer for running that into the ground with Blade: Trinity.

Industry insiders praise the film for its high concept, some action sequences, and the Spierig brother’s ability to get a lot out of a low budget. Overall, it was better than they both expected. Apparently, Daybreakers was delayed for some time since its completion, which had them both worried about its quality going in.

NINE-Trailer with Daniel Day Lewis, Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman

In a trailer for the upcoming musical “Nine,” a beautiful go-go dancing, Beyonce-swaying blonde shows off an impressive set of pipes and some decent moves.

Movie musical “Nine” features Nicole Kidman, Fergie, and Daniel Day Lewis.

No, it’s not Fergie, but her suprise co-star Kate Hudson. Yep, Hudson can sing. And fellow “Nine” actors Daniel Day Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard don’t do such a bad job either.

It’s always a surprise for audiences when actors known more for their acting than their singing break out into song on the big screen. And some surprises are more pleasant than others. Last year Meryl Streep got cheers for her performance in “Mama Mia!” Her co-star Pierce Brosnan got jeers.

In 2002’s big-screen version of the musical “Chicago,” Catherine Zeta Jones won an Oscar for her singing role as Velma Kelly, but Richard Gere was widely panned for his singing as Billy Flynn.
