Jennifer Lopez hosted Saturday Night Live, we wish she didn’t

// March 1st, 2010 // 6 Comments » // Where's the Beef

Jennifer Lopez had the rare honor of a total ‘Saturday Night Live’ takeover. Like Britney Spears and Taylor Swift in episodes past, J.Lo performed as the host and the musical guest on this past Saturday ‘SNL.’ From her Rihanna impression in the cold open to playing herself (frantically shouting in Spanish) in Kristen Wiig’s recurring, awkward ‘Hollywood Dish’ interview segment, J. Lo let it all hang out — but did it work? The sad truth is Saturday Night Live has not been funny for years. They might get one or two sketches a show that stand out but that’s about it.

J-Lo sang in the show as well, too bad for us cause while I was watching it I kept thinking “Damn she sounds fucking horrible” is it me folks or do you agree?

Ron Howard is prepping Kevin James and Vince Vaughn for his next feature.

Ron Howard is setting Kevin James to play Vince Vaughn’s best friend in the untitled Universal Pictures comedy about infidelity. The film is Howard’s next directing vehicle from a screenplay by Allan Loeb. Howard and Imagine partner Brian Grazer are prepping a spring start in Chicago. Kevin and Vince will play best friends and business partners, and Vaughn is tortured when he observes his pal’s wife getting intimate with another man. Should he tell? The comedy came from an idea by Grazer, who’ll produce with Vaughn and the actor’s Wild West Picture Show banner. Imagine’s Kim Roth is executive producer. The buddy system has made for a nice transition for James after his long-running TV sitcom King of Queens. He paired with Will Smith in Hitch and Adam Sandler in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. After carrying Paul Blart: Mall Cop, he re-teamed with Sandler in Grown Ups and plays the title role in the MGM comedy The Zookeeper. Scripter Loeb has been writing about all forms of cheating, with recent credits that include the card-counting drama 21, Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, and now this infidelity comedy.

Check out the Trailer for this movie “Spanish Movie” making fun of Latino cinema.

For a second, you might think this is a horrible prank from the man-children that brought us [ADJECTIVE] Movie franchise. But it oh so isn’t, and is the perfect type of parody if you were obssessed with Spanish cinema in the mid 90s til recent. It’s actually refreshing to see that Spanish comedy is really evolving, well in cinema the Spanish market has always come up with some great stuff it’s their tv side that needs work. Here is a poster of “SPANISH MOVIE”

From my own quick count, we’ve got parodies of [REC], Abre Los Ojos (which Cameron Crowe remade as Vanilla Sky), The Orphanage, Pan’s Labyrinth, The Others and Volver. I am so excited for this.

Black actors denied presence in “Couples Retreat” international poster

// November 17th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Where's the Beef

The fact that Couples Retreat had its black actors extracted from international posters has gotten a lot of attention in the past few days, but I’d argue that while it’s a bullshit move, it’s an incident that’s threatening to obscure the real issue.

The truth is that in the world of Couples Retreat, something much, much worse than the poster controversy happened this weekend, and nobody seems to be saying a thing about it.

Quietly, as Saturday figures were released, the critically reviled comedy passed the $100 million mark — an impressive hold that indicates that the movie will have no trouble tallying a domestic gross that’s well over three times its opening weekend.

At first I thought that this had to have been Vince Vaughn’s best gross since The Break-Up, but I was horrified to learn that the similarly terrible Four Christmases grossed a stealth $120 million last year. All that the formerly live-wire Vaughn seems to want right now is a paycheck, a vacation, and definitely some new material cause his jokes are as tired as the suitcases under his eyes.
