// March 20th, 2011 // No Comments » // Trailers, What's Poppin

Oscar Isaac tears up the big screen this weekend in the action, fantasy thriller “Sucker Punch” portraying the character Blue Jones a sinister man who runs an insane asylum.

Latino Film Chatter got to catch up with Oscar and discuss music, “Sucker Punch” and what’s next on Oscar’s agenda.

LFC: Man you’re all kinds of Latinos Guatemala, Cuba lived in Miami…. before we start I saw that you used to be part of a band, do you still jam on the guitar?

OI: Yeah, all the time. I write music, I’m putting together some songs, I play indie-soul stuff, with a little electronica. I like bands like “Radio head” and “TV on the Radio” so yeah I’m still doing it.

LFC: How did you hear about the project: Was it something you were pursuing? Something your team brought to the table?

OI: I had not heard of “Sucker Punch” the movie prior to being called in to an audition in New York. It was about 2 years ago, and I did a monologue as ‘Blue Jones’ and I started liking all the layers this character had. I met with Zack and heard and saw his vision for this project from there on I wanted in on this.

LFC: Three words that describe Blue Jones:

OI: Charming, witty & intelligent.

LFC: Did you get to work out with the girls during their training?

OI: Yes I did! I did, I was jealous they were training three month priors. I come in and I see them training with these military guys and I’m saying to myself I want to get in on that. Jena Malone and I would always compete physically it was great training that way. I trained for about a month when I came into the movie.

LFC: Ok, so I saw Sucker Punch and I read somewhere where it was compared to “Fight-Club” meets “One Flew over the cuckoo’s nest”: I thought ok. How would you describe the movie?

OI: Above all else it’s a wild fantasy flick, it’s really bold it has those elements of anime mixed in with “Molin Rogue” meets “All that Jazz” it’s really fun.

5 minutos with Michael Peña talking about “The Lincoln Lawyer”

// March 17th, 2011 // No Comments » // Trailers, What's Poppin

In the gripping thriller “The Lincoln Lawyer” Michael Peña plays Jesus Martinez a man put in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. Matthew McConaughey palys Michael “Mick” Haller, a slick, charismatic Los Angeles lawyer who defended Jesus Martinez yet Martinez ended up getting wrongly convicted of the crime.

“Mick” unexpectedly lands the case of a lifetime: defending a rich Beverly Hills playboy (Ryan Phillippe) who is accused of attempted murder. This case somehow ties to his previous case with Martinez and “MIck” finds himself in a deadly masters of manipulation game.

I got to talk to my boy Michael Peña about the movie. Let’s not forget to mention Michael was just in last week’s number 1 box office movie BATTLE: Los Angeles. For now, we’re taking 5 minutos to talk “The Lincoln Lawyer” which is in theaters tomorrow.
LFC: So, Michael how did you get involved with “The Lincoln Lawyer” project?
MP: Actually the Executive Producer is a great friend and approached me about playing the character Jesus Martinez. It was initially a smaller role but once I committed they decided to elaborate on the character. They added more work for me to do with Jesus so I was excited about that.
LFC: Where did the inspiration for this story come from?
MP: It’s actually from a book by Michael Connelly and the script was written by John Romano.
LFC: I see you had a nice cast in this one, why don’t you tell us who else is in the movie.
MP: Sure, we have Marisa Tomei, Josh Lucas, Bryan Craston, William H. Macy and John Leguizamo to name a few of the cast members. I’m sure fans out there will enjoy it.
LFC: Mike I saw the movie I think it’s a great roller coaster ride of a flick. I’m a fan of Matthew’s and was really happy to see him in his zone when it comes to performances. Marisa Tomei is such a sexy woman I love her in anything…lol and of course my boy Johnny Legs in the house.
Anything else you’d like to tell me about the project or to our fans.
MP: Yeah, if this one does well we’re already discussing a sequel in which my character gets to play a little more with the “Mick”. But, hey for the record that’s just talks right now. We hope that everyone out there goes and checks it out and enjoy it as much as I enjoyed being part of it.
LFC: Mike, thanks for your time congrats on BATTLE: LA, congrats on ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ and talk to you soon buddy.

MP: Thanks, man right on.
