On behalf of the family of Michael Del Rio, I am sorry to inform you that Uncle Mikey passed away suddenly yesterday, December 13th, in the early morning hours. His passing comes as a shock to all who know and love him.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Uncle Mikey’s life and legacy at the wake and Memorial Service this Wednesday. Location, time, and other arrangements will be posted online as they become available.

Please also feel free to share any memories, photos, or condolences online at

Thank you for your continuing prayers for my family as we grieve the loss of our beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, Michael Philip Del Rio. Uncle Mikey’s heart stopped in the early morning hours of December 13, 2009, and he’s dancing with Jesus, Felipe, and Estella now. Please continue to pray especially for Aunt Lory, whose 31 year romance ended too soon. Creative and beautiful, Uncle Mikey overcame personal demons as a young New York artist to love Jesus and others well. He was only 53 but he went out on top, beating his older brothers in last week’s basketball family feud.

I will miss you, Uncle Mikey.

Below, the beginnings of a tribute to a life and love filled with passion and vigor. Please add your memories or prayers in the Comments section.

I’m glad my comment went through this time…may the Lord continue to give you the strength you need to continue on your journey to the Lord…as Michael would want it that way…he is now in the Lords glory…and will always remain alive in our hearts…last time I saw Michael was many, many years ago…I do remember him wanting to be an actor….I’m glad he followed his dream…he seemed to be loved and admired by alot of his friends….I will never forget the Del Rio family…they will always be in my heart….
